SEPTEMBER
END OF YEAR REPORT

September marks the first anniversary of the launch of The Quanta-B Tales, and also of Bellmason Books; the company I formed to publish it. Though it is called a company, it’s really only a hobby at the moment. I have no need to trouble HMRC with my accounts as I have only received £4 in revenue, and lost many more times that amount in costs.
My life has changed a lot in the last twelve months as well, though not because of the book. I retired from my job in January and moved back home to the village where I grew up. I am also in the process of selling my house, so financially I’m in a bit of a squeeze until the cheque clears.
All of this is to say that I have not been giving The Quanta-B Tales or Bellmason Books the attention they deserve, mainly because I no longer have a functional office. I am currently running everything from a dining room table. With no marketing and no effort on my part I am selling no books, but the great thing about books is they don’t have a sell-by date.
I did offer my book for free on two occasions during this year and that prompted quite a few downloads, so there are readers out there. Hopefully some of them will tell their friends.
So while it would be fair to say that this first year of operation hasn’t exactly gone with a bang, I don’t think this necessarily marks it down as a failure. As you will have read in last month’s post, I have published another book; The Man Who Started The War That Saved The Universe. This was a commission that I received from a friend and it’s been a good experience to work on someone else’s book and figure out how long things take and how much work is involved. In 2027 I will hopefully be in a position to accept more commissioned work and help other indie authors with getting their work published.
Let me also take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to everyone who has read The Quanta-B Tales, and also to everyone who has supported it and me along the way. I still feel like this is only the start and I have so many plans for new projects that I know you’re all going to love.
Here’s to year two!
